Real Madrid left reeling after Taarabt commits to QPR
Real Madrid were last night left cursing their luck, after long time target Adel Taarabt, signed a new three year contract with Queen’s Park Rangers.
Taarabt, a signing from Tottenham Hotspur, has been subject to much speculation for the past two seasons. Most notably linked to Real’s great rivals Barcelona, who failed to agree personal terms with the Moroccan play-maker during the January transfer window.
Having agreed a potentially world record breaking transfer fee with the West London club, Madrid were confident in securing the services of Taarabt. However, once again, the player himself proved to be the stumbling block.
When questioned, a Madrid spokesman was visibly bitter about the club’s failure to sign the player widely dubbed as ‘Morocco’s answer to Zidane’.
“It is true that we feel disappointed, we have been watching Adel for quite some time. His effortless performances for the Spurs reserves first attracted us,” pausing briefly to light a cigar with a wad of Euros, the statement continued.
“His general sense of entitlement and talent suppressing ego are qualities that are very much attuned to our Galáctico philosophy.”
Taarabt, who is away on holiday before preseason training restarts, was typically candid when pressed for comment.
“Real, they are not so special for me. In all honesty, my talent deserves the recognition of a higher order.”
But a source close to the player has revealed; “Adel strives to be recognised as the best in all fields. As much as he’d never admit it, he wasn’t entirely confident that even he could be considered a bigger tosser than Cristiano Ronaldo.”
